Where to stay in Nuwara Eliya
Nuwara Eliya hotels & accommodations

We travelled to the Tea Factory Hotel from Kandy getting higher in altitude as we went. The mists rolled in and eventually we turned down a narrow bumpy road that led through some tea plantations. The very imposing Tea Factory Hotel loomed suddenly out of the fog. On arrival, we were welcomed with a warm towel and cup of sweet tea. Some of the machinery from the old t...

The view from where this hotel is situated is unbelievable. Many foreigners stay at this hotel or stop here for food/tea. The room is very clean and comfortable. There's no AC needed in this hotel as the climate in Nuwara Eliya/Ramboda is very cool. The bathroom was nice and clean and the shower felt so relaxing. The view from the room was amazing. We ordered room serv...

Treat yourself to a nice hotel in Nuwara Eliya because there's nothing in town and not really any place to go out. Best place to stay is here or at the Grand Hotel. However, in this hotel there is a set menu for dinner whereas in the Grand Hotel there is a restaurant and a coffee shop with good food. Both hotels have bars and billiard tables. In fact the Grand Hotel ha...

The staff was super lovely, welcoming and even prepared our packed lunch as we were leaving at 5am to Horton plains national park. The room was clean, and the bed was super lovely (had the best sleep in Sri Lanka!). The staff even brought hot water bottles to warm our beds, and I honestly wished I could have stayed for longer. The price wasn't the cheapest compare to o...

We had a bad start to the trip bc of our driver. He only had one day in Nuwara Eliya and spent the entire time in the car. We were going to leave Nuwara Eliya without having seen anything until we met Yohan, the manager of the B&B. He heard our story and offered us another night's stay and arranged a beautiful scenic bike ride around the lake and tea gardens. It was so...

Very easy to locate the hotel if you travel from north sri lanka to nuwara eliya. Its a little far from Nuwara Eliya city center. The view from the Panorama rooms is AMAZING !! Wifi speed is also good in the rooms. The furnishings of rooms are also nice and cozy. You can hear the Ramboda Waterfalls from the balcony of the panorama rooms. Its really soothing. Standard ...

We had the best time. Reading the previous reviews I thought I made a bad choice but I really enjoyed the stay. The staff were really helpful and location is just superb. It's not in nuwara eliya. It's around 45min away from there but I prefer here because it's much peaceful and quieter. The cleanliness was good but you can find one or two insects in the room(you can...

This place is amassing and located in the best viewing in the Nuwaraeliya in front of Gregory lake and garden. It was nice staying in balcony view room. Breakfast was superb and 5star rooms with all facilities. Staff was nice and friendly. This place is absolutely recommended and worth staying for money.

We stayed one night at Albany villa and had the best stay ever. We ve been welcomed and treated like princesses by an amazing staff. They were so considerate and nice to us, they made our stay completely perfect. The villa is charming, lovely decorated, and very confortable. The furniture is amazing and the garden is adorable. We really recommend the villa for holidays...

My stay at the hotel was totally overwhelming, and I extended my stay for another two nights due to the great comfort. It is a hotel built by international standard with all the facilities - spacious room/bathroom, clean towel, heater, tea/coffee-making facilities, high-speed internet, TV w/ international channels, and mostly importantly steady hot water which is very ...

This is located few kilometres away from Nuwara Eliya town centre but very easy to get in (Don't complain, take a bus to Mahagasthota and a taxi. It costs less than two dollars). The staff is nice and welcoming. But the most important thing was the room. This is a very large clean room. Definitely worth twice the money I paid. The free breakfast was good enough. It is ...

The hotel is located in center of Nuwara eliya town and walking distance to Gregory lake and race course ground. They had two types of separated menu for breakfast, English and Indian menu. Food was good , rooms are comfortable. Manager and staff was really helpful and friendly.

Beautiful place and very well maintained. Right from the point one enters Ramboda Falls, you are taken down to the hotel in a van. The hotel is well built and has a great location. Rooms are clean and the view from the room is good. Has a natural water swimming pool and one can walk down to the waterfalls. Would rate it 8 on 10. Only disadvantage is that it's cut off f...

We selected this hotel as a group of friends because it sounded new and true to Agoda, this was really a Unique Property built recently Managed by a reputed hotel Management with well trained staff All Rooms were excellent with quality amenities We have found an excellent hotel in Nuwara Eliya for our future stay

There is no hot water for such a price, is the worst condition for a hotel compare with all other we lived inSrilanka. But the staff is very patient. If you do not mind live in ground with horrible smell, than book the room for two. Otherwise do not book the hotel. The toliet is very small as well.

We stayed in the attic room which had the most fantastic bathtub. My husband, who loves baths, spent a good 2 hours enjoying. Staff were fantastic and could not be more helpful and obliging. Stairs were a bit steep, but it was an attic room, so to be expected. They have a beautiful pool table on the second floor which we made use of on one of the 3 evenings we stayed. ...

Because in Nuwara Eliya everything is a little more expansive, we chose our accommodation a little outside (5min with Tuktuk). And Luxe Wilderness was just perfect. The villa is furnished like a british country house and is absolutely beautiful. You have a kitchen equipped with everything you might need. And if you don’t want to cook or leave the house: the owner offe...

It is a modern looking estate and is new. We are impressed with the space in the room and the design. However, there is no cable tv and wifi. The staff also has limited proficiency in English but they are eager to help. We would still recommend it as it is still comfortable to stay in.

We stayed in 5 hotels in Sri Lanka, this one was by far the best. It's very nicely decorated, very nicely taken care of, very nicely everything. The breakfast buffet was great, especially when comparing it to the hotels. My daughter finally got to eat doughnuts. I'm surprised that it's a 4 star hotel and not a 5 star hotel! Maybe because the rooms were not very spa...

During our trip's planning, we had a difficult time knowing if we should stay in Ella or Nuwara Elyia. We are so glad we chose Nuwara Elyia, and the Tea Plant hotel. The bungalow itself, it’s staff and the surrounding area are simply lovely. Peaceful walks through the tea and their adjoining pickers villages allow you glimpses of life in this corner of Sri Lanka. Picking, hand-processing and enjoying tea from these hills was a highlight of my daughters visit.

price are reasonable with such amazing services. Great views, cozy rooms, clean bathrooms, tasty foods. nothing bad at all. We all love the place. We had a driver so there was no problem for us to get to anywhere near Nuwara Eliya. (for example we went to city area, national park, etc)
Cheap places to stay in Nuwara Eliya

We thought that "Agoda Homes" was some sort of medal for nice homes, but that is not. the. case. The bed was very uncomfortable and the bathroom wasn't any better. but if that isn't that important for you, the rest is nice: perfectly located and nice host who even let us leave our bags there till 4 pm the next day as we wanted to visit the town before moving on - while...

My friend and I had the best stay in Sri Lanka here, "excellent" wouldn't begin to describe it. The rooms are very clean and the hosts super welcoming and helpful, always ready to attend to our needs and questions regarding travelling and sightseeing around the area. They were kind enough to help us arrange a tuk-tuk to Adam's Peak, and in the afternoon, when there is ...

Nice place. I have stayed in a few places in Nuwara Eliya, it was definitely one of the better priced places for a single traveler. I personally think the price for a double is too high at RS.3000 but that could be the going rate nowadays. The slippers in the room are a nice and often overlooked touch.

the manager/owner of this hotel took care of our stay well , he even gave us a ride to the lake and town . the location is fantastic ,, great value for money . and felt safe secure ..and the brekfest was made to order certainly will stay there on my next trip .

Stayed here one night with my girlfriend. We arrived on a misty and cold day which also meant that it was humid and cold inside the house. In our room there was old trash behind the door and no bed sheets on the bed just blankets. The bathroom/shower is shared and could use a good cleaning. There is warm water but low water pressure. We had vegetarian rice and curry f...

Dorm rooms were clean and comfortable. The restaurant has great food. Bathrooms were shared but were very big and good shower pressure and hot water. Walking distance from the train station. We took the bus to do Adams Peak. Staff are so friendly and welcoming. Would come back here again.

The staff were nice, but, the location is up to the hill, you have to take tuktuk to the downtown for dinner. At the time I arrived, this was new year in Sri Lanka. There was a big party besides the lake, the people celebrates and sings till 2:00am, although this was noisy, but the atmosphere is happy. The breakfast is wonderful.

Very friendly hots, the place is quite new and clean. They cared very well for us. The only thing is that is about 6 km from the start of Adam's peak track, but the owner is able to call tuk tuk for you or you can go with the last bus about 9.30 pm.

At first it was a bit hard to find but the neighbors were very helpfull and nice. When we found the place we were welcomed from this lovely family who owns the house and theyr son Shan wo is in charge for the rooms for rent. His mother cooks very good local food and you always get good tea if you wish for it.The Location is near the adams peak, 1hour with the TukTuk. A...

We stayed in a three person room, that smelled damp. The bathroom was small with the shower over the toilet, but the water was nice and hot. They provided us with a packed breakfast (included) for our trip to worlds end. WiFi was good in the lobby and less good in the rooms. The hotel was in a convenient location, but up a steep hill. We asked to change room becau...

The family that own this place are truly lovely! They pickedus up from the trai station and dropped us back. As well as this they arranged and took us to adams peak to do the night walk for the sunrise and waited til we came back. They hace the most beautiful rock pool which was the highlight!! We were astounded by the beauty of the landscape. The rooms are modest, ...

You cannot really get closer to Adams Peak - this place is only 150m from the start. The 2 young guys managing the place at the moment are awesome - really down to earth and helpful. They let us borrow torches for our climb and just generally nice to chat to. The room was spacious and very clean. A warm blanket is provided which was great as it gets cold at night. Th...

We are a group of 8 person traveling in Sri Lanka by ourselves and chose the villa to stay because we wanted to climb Adams peak. The villa has 4 rooms for 2 person each. It was just perfect for our group. A couple stays just beside it and take care of the guest with cooking etc. they were really friendly to us and made the stay so comfortable. The drive to Adams pe...

Stayed for two nights to climb Adams Peak. Room was comfortable and clean, beautiful view over the tea plants from the balcony. The owner and his family and lovely and make you feel at home, they have a taxi and can drive you to Adams Peak and back which was so convenient - we got back to a lovely large breakfast and was great not having to stress about transportation ...

We loved our stay at the vegetable garden! Our room was cozy and very clean. The house and the beautiful veggie garden are located perfectly just a short walk from the Adam’s Peak. Very peaceful. The family is very friendly and they prepare the best food using fresh ingiridients from their garden. We were so lucky to have dinner there and breakfast. We have been tra...

Everything! Personnel is great and so helpful. Breakfast/dinner is good too. The rooms are very comfortable, you have a big room with great view which makes life luxury. Perfect location, in the middle of the very downtown, but in a small street so no noise at all at night.

stayed for one night in the delux room prior to summiting adams peak. the room was spacious and clean and has a great view of Adams peak from the balcony. The advice from the staff was great and they got us a taxi for our onward journey easily. the road can be a bit noisy but that is the same with all the hotels here and not there fault.

Positive: The view from the hotel and around it was really beautiful! We love the view and had a great walk down the hill. However it's a bit far from the town, taking a tuk-tuk will possibly cost about 150-200rs. One of the staff speaks Japanese well, and the others speaks good English too. Negative: We had a room with external bathroom and there is no space to hang ...

We arrived and were shown are room and at first glance it was really nice, clean and bright. We popped our bags down and went down to the restaurant to get some food. Before we ordered our food we were told to move to another room. We moved and unfortunately the room wasn't quite as good, being smaller and darker. The manager is quite pushy and wasn't happy when we sai...

I stayed with my boyfriend for only 2D1N at his place. We're from Ella and the next day back to Colombo. Nothing much we can see in this short stay. We booked this place when we in train, just a few hours before we arrived. The place itself, a bit far from the center. But, what i can say, for a rush travelers like us, it not be a problem. Its hard to find a tuk tuk (l...

to me, it is a very lovely location and if you are looking for an area where u can explore locals' lives and go wonder rounf safely, instead of nawura eliya (little england), this is the place for you! saying that, it is not far away from nawara eliya at all since you can take a tuktuk for 300rupees, US$2. the hosts were AMAZING. i love them! it just makes me feel l...

We took a chance on this place as it didn't have any reviews and was obviously pretty new. Lovely room, staff and location. They couldn't have been more helpful. There were only a few people staying so they made breakfast to order rather than operate a buffet. They even included us in their celebration for new year. Great place.

The hotel is located in an isolated in a secured resident holiday village on hilltop, with quite and beautiful neighborhood. Only 4 room in the cottage, without being disturbed by large size of tourist groups. The room is decorated in British style, deserve to say“home sweet home". The room service is also beyond expectation, with warm welcome tea, thoughtful considera...

The best accommodation in Nuwara Eliay and for us the best in Sri Lanka. Clean, new hotel with the super view and wonderful, peaceful garden. They cook delicious cuisine, choose something local. Very friendly and helpful staff, in the evening you can play billiard. Would like to come back again.

I HAVE BEEN TO SRI LANKA AFTER 25 YEARS AND HAD A 14 DAY TRIP. I STAYED IN MORE THAN 6 HOTELS BUT THE BLACKPOOL HOTEL IS OUT OF THE WORLD,THE CHECK IN WAS VERY PERSONALIZED, SO NICE TO HAVE A HOT CHOCOLATE AS A WELCOME DRINK. ROOMS ARE OF VERY HIGH STANDARD, I LIKE THE HEATING FACILITIES. HOUSEKEEPING IS VERY ATTENTIVE, THEIR TURN DOWN IS SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT.I CA...

To be honest with you, one of the greatest place in Nuwara Eliya and 100% worth to be there. Apartment is so neat & clean and pleasant arrangement everywhere. Specially caretakers are up to the standard & carrying Sri Lankan habitability. Superior thanks go to one of the Caretaker name called “Lahiru” and he is so polite and brilliant human been. All and all never miss...

A slightly older hotel as compared to Araliya City Hotel but has still retained some of its charm. Quite centrally located in Nuwara Eliya. The rooms were satisfactory but it was alright as we had spent most of our time outside of the hotel. Staff are extremely hardworking and polite though I suggest that training the staff more will take the experience to the next lev...

Spectacular and well maintained garden (but not the only one in Nuwara Eliya). Have other restsurants within 15m to choose from if dont feel like eating at the hotel. Fabulous bar. Get anything you want under cosy environment. Solid wifi connection and hot water. Warm blankets. 1 min from bus station by tuk tuk.

It was a memorable stay in the heart of Nuwara Eliya, just beside the Gregory Lake. The staff was very helpful and the food was awesome. The place was ideal for quiet, comfortable and cosy stay. Little disappointed on the room heaters as it was not sufficient enough. I was staying at the best rooms and rooms were very clean . The prices were little bit expensive but r...

This is one of the best places I have been in Sri Lanka. Offers the best "LITTLE ENGLAND" experience in Nuwara Eliya. Highly recommended . Found this place at a really good price. Not very close to Nuwara Eliya Town. But within 10 Min you can drive to the town area. Very good place to relax and enjoy the beauty.

We had a amazing experience staying at Brockenhurst Bungalow. We were biker group, arrived with 3 motorbikes and after tiring day of riding, Rajiv, the owner of the Bungalow together with Chef Waruna arranged us nice welcoming tea reception and hospitality was great. I would highly recommend this bungalow who ever want to have a relaxed stay in Nuwara Eliya.

Wouldn't stay here again as photos were deceptive. Our stay was ok and room was clean but appartment block was not in a nice location and had an eerie feeling to it. Strong stench of sewage coming through bathroom washbasin sinkhole and sewage smell generally pervades the appartment block. The driver accom was in the basement and extremely cold so we felt quite sorry f...

One of the best memories in Sri Lanka. This cozy British house is in the tranquile hills not far from the lake. The reception room is decent and artistic. The billiards room was a fun and relaxing time for us. The service is full of heart. It is our first time in a hotel where the staff prepared hot-water bag. As we didn't expect it to be cold in mountains, this hot-wa...

The area is beautiful and peaceful but in my opinion this is not 4* accommodation. To be factual our room was 20sq m, and not 50 sq m floor area as advertised, and our bed a small double. Generally the rooms were clean but they are dated and need refurbishing. The bathroom fitments were rusty. We did have AC and a TV but only three local channels were available and...

1. This is not a hotel to start with. 2. Not sure why they have to charge per extra person as its just an apartment 3. There is no electricity 90% of the time power cut day or night 4. Have to travel far to get food 5. No heaters in room 6. Disappointed that they more keen to get extra money out of us for 2 extra people staying but didn't do anything about the power ...

The place is called Heavenly Home Inn in Nuwara Eliya, but seriously it is so far from 'heavenly'! When we arrived there, the first thing I noticed was that the owner has stated at her gate ‘Foreigners Only’! I personally found it very insulting. As soon as she met me, she asked me if I was a Sri Lankan, and where I live! When we went there, she said that she does n...

i stayed at this hotel last week. it was a fantastic stay. having originally booked just for myself, i took my aunt along with me in the end and contacted the hotel in advance to ask for the room to be changed to a twin. this was no trouble for them at all, and we were given a huge room with its own living area and sofas etc. the room and building itself is a little ti...

This is a fantastic retreat away from any hustle and bustle. Definitely the highlight of our tour of Sri Lanka. The service is impeccable and highly responsive. It helps that the bungalow can only have a few guests, which means much of the service feels very personal. Food was great although I would personally have preferred my curry a little spicier, though apparentl...

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Special thanks to Mr.Ansari- has been very helpful and providing very useful info. The breakfast is very good. I strongly recommend this Hotel. during our stay we had one of top VVIP in Sri Lanka stayed in the Hotel. This tells the standard of the Hotel. Thanks to all in Araliya and see you soon again.

- Only one path leading to the hotel and it was narrow and scary - rooms had poor lighting. Difficult for reading purpose - no proper table to use laptop - no receptionist at the reception area most of the times - food was not to mark, with the exception of the string hoppers. The fish was not edible (hard).

Real reviews for hotels
Very mixed bag the town is not that special the lake is nice and the views are lovely the grand hotel is by far the best thing there.
It is a small & very nice hill station in Srilanka. The weather is in contrast to the hot weather in other parts of the country.
Any traveler who comes to Sri Lanka should go and visit NUWARA ELIYA. Most Awesome/Beautiful & Fabulous city in the world.
It had a few classic old buildings. Though that was offset by the hovels of the locals. It could be missed happily.
It's a beautiful city which is cool. If you like rain or cool climate, you'd love here. Basically you can cover the sight seeing in 2 - 3 days as there's not many places to see and most are quite near.
beautiful highlands, many tea plantations along the way, route up may be uncomfortable because it is winding and steep.
going to Macwoods tea company to see around tea factory & buy Srilanka local tea, nice place to going around, nice view of tea plant scenery.
Enjoy the drive up the mountain, the lovely weather, the friendly people, the trek to World's end, the views from the mountains and the clean and beautiful place.
It is almost the centre of Sri Lanka. It has many attractions if you are comming from Kandy, which is the most likely scenario.
I did not like this city at all, but it may be affected with bad accomodation och rainy weather. The tea gardens are nice to visit and there are some spectacular scenery around.
It's a really a great place for relaxing! You can get yourself a cup of hot Ceylon Tea and just chill for all the moments you want.
We really just stopped and had lunch and drove through. looked like a decent place to stay for a night or just a few hours of the day.
nuwara Elia is the must-place when you come to Sri-Lanka, it will make you feel relax and charge your energy.
Nice clean city with lakes and Beautiful natures. Tea gardens and water falls are very nice. The city looks like little England.
It's called Little England, yes it has paddle boats, pony rides, kids rides, all around Gregory Lake.
It's a pretty old world English style place in the tea country, the main attraction here is the circuit walk at Horton Plains National Park, taking in worlds end, little worlds end and a waterfall and nature in general, the worst part is you are encouraged to take a jeep costing 50US to get to the park entrance but a car can easily get there so this to me is an expense you don't need, if you take the train to Ella from Nuwara Eliya it goes through the park and you'll see amazing views any way, depends if you feel like a hike, and you may see a bit of wild life deer etc.
Clothing to keep you warm is a must, the town has some good places to eat. You can visit the golf course, botanical gardens, Gregory Lake, Ambewella Farm, Strawberry farms and many more picturesque places.
It was a great stay in Nuwara Eliya. We enjoyed a great morning walk around the lake and an excellent trekking in Horton Plains.
Nuwara Eliya is best to see the tea plants and estates. Best place to stay would be at the Heritance tea factory.
A nice place to enjoy cool weather (we live in Singapore!). Friendly people. 2 nights are ok to discover the area.
Very Beautiful City. City architecture was a plus point. This city was an olden typical English mini-city with the beautiful parks and greens.
Cold climate. We stayed here for the cold climate. Also very beautiful nature specially the lake is very nice.
Good to visit for a breath of cool air. Horton Plains is a nice place to walk with great views, and probably the only park where visitors are allowed to walk.
mountans, water falls, tea estates, lakes, cool and calm weather. nice people. A must see city in sri lanka.
Beautiful greenery and sightseeing very relax good have a break. Weather is cold and at night it's chilly.
We pass by the town to have lunch and walk around the city. The market is very interesting and local people are friendly.
However, a visit to Nurawa Eliya isn’t only about tea, it is also an forest park and art of architecture museum.
Do not visit Nuwara Eliya April and May as it gets filled with local tourists. The city is not clean during this period.
Anyone that says to stay for 2 days, don't bother. Had an awesome salad at grovenor hotel though, really fresh and tasty vedgies.
Really looks and feels like "Little England": architecture, climate and vegetation are SO british! Bring a warm sweater.
