"V Hotel Lavender is rated 4 stars while Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong is rated 3 stars, I think the latter really does give the former a run for its money in terms of price, value, interior finishings and location. I booked because pricing was similar and it's newly renovated. Its accessibility is tops, just walk around 112 Katong there's plenty of food or cut through Roxy Square/Grand Mercure backlane to get to Parkway Parade. With the upcoming MRT on the East Coast , getting around will be easier. Taking a Grab into town is only 12-15mins. Not too fond of the breakfast spread (minuscule pancake size) but pleasantly surprised it's under IHG group same as Hotel Indigo right next door which is more on the range of Grand Mercure. Will definitely be back :)"

"I'm not a tourist per se - our home underwent some flooring construction over the weekend, so I just needed basic accommodation for a couple of nights. Pros: Selected this hotel simply for its proximity to food places and public transportation. Location-wise, it's a 2-min short bus ride away(4 stops) from the bustle of Geylang Serai, which I preferred. Cons: The hotel may want to look into engaging more regular pest control management services. Ants may appear if you leave food or drinks outside for too long. At least, that's what I discovered during my stay. Hope this is not the case now. I'm not highly recommending, but I'm not, not recommending either. It's an okay choice if you're looking for basic accommodation. Not for the fussy. If you have high expectations, best to consider elsewhere."

"I like that the hotel is relatively new and fresh, and conveniently located, a leisurely walk away from I12 Katong and Parkway Parade. STeps away from local delights like Polar, Boon Tong Kee, Yong, Bee Cheng, Glory's, Awfully Chocolate and fruit stalls. I like that it is a smaller hotel that is not congested with guests and therefore afforded us a relaxed and enjoyable time. Staff was very courteous and attentive. The hotel and the rooms were clean and I enjoyed the play of patterns in the interiors. I also like that Holy Family Church is just across and convenient for Holy Mass. And of course, it's cool that the bus stop is also steps away! Wifi availability was fantastic for me."

"I was from Vietnam. I spent 5 nights at the hotel with my family of 4 adults in total. Its location is quite near from MRT. There are many food stalls, convenient stores, markets and trading centers just around the hotel. Most of the food are Malaysian but I think no problem as you will not have all your meals here. The hotel family room is large, quiet and clean. Staffs are friendly and helpful. I found room tariff publicized at the hotel is a bit cheaper than I booked at Agoda but I don't mind, it 's business. My family had very good time in Singapore. "

"We stayed for two nights early June and were very impressed. We needed to be close to the airport - but with easy access to shopping areas and Hotel 81 Sakura met our needs. We got a very good price and were impressed wtih what we go for the money. It reminded us very much of an average Japanese business hotel - it was clean , everything worked, the rooms were quiet, and the staff efficient and pleasant. The most pleasant surprise of our stay was the many excellent and cheap Vietnamese (mainly but not only) eateries withing easy walking distance. Good breakfast option eateries and hawker venues close by as well. Bus stop less than 5 mins walk away and transfer to MRT only another 5 to 10 minutes (about 30 minutes walk). This was the first time we had stayed away from the Orchard Rd and China Town areas and were pleased we did and got to enjoy another apsect of Singapore. If you want a good clean no fuss hotel close to great food and at a price that si easy on the budget - this place we can recommend."
