"V Hotel Lavender is rated 4 stars while Holiday Inn Express Singapore Katong is rated 3 stars, I think the latter really does give the former a run for its money in terms of price, value, interior finishings and location. I booked because pricing was similar and it's newly renovated. Its accessibility is tops, just walk around 112 Katong there's plenty of food or cut through Roxy Square/Grand Mercure backlane to get to Parkway Parade. With the upcoming MRT on the East Coast , getting around will be easier. Taking a Grab into town is only 12-15mins. Not too fond of the breakfast spread (minuscule pancake size) but pleasantly surprised it's under IHG group same as Hotel Indigo right next door which is more on the range of Grand Mercure. Will definitely be back :)"

"I'm not a tourist per se - our home underwent some flooring construction over the weekend, so I just needed basic accommodation for a couple of nights. Pros: Selected this hotel simply for its proximity to food places and public transportation. Location-wise, it's a 2-min short bus ride away(4 stops) from the bustle of Geylang Serai, which I preferred. Cons: The hotel may want to look into engaging more regular pest control management services. Ants may appear if you leave food or drinks outside for too long. At least, that's what I discovered during my stay. Hope this is not the case now. I'm not highly recommending, but I'm not, not recommending either. It's an okay choice if you're looking for basic accommodation. Not for the fussy. If you have high expectations, best to consider elsewhere."

"Initially, I booked a 2D1N Deluxe room here for a staycation with my girlfriend. Upon knowing that it was her birthday, the staff upgraded my room to a Premier Peranakan room and even offered to deliver us a slice of birthday cake at night. It was a pleasant start to the stay. The room was spacious and amazing, with a sitting area in the corner suitable for having afternoon tea. The only let-down was that they were not subscribed to Mio TV, so we couldn't watch the Premier League matches that night. But the channel selection was otherwise decent. We had lunch at Group Therapy Cafe, which is located at the attached shopping mall Katong V. This place has decent mains and terrific cakes and tarts. There are many other food options along the street where the hotel is located at, including restaurants serving Katong Laksa, chicken rice and pub food. Shopping malls nearby include 112 Katong, which has a cinema, and Parkway Parade. I asked for the birthday cake to be brought to our room at 9pm, but we only returned to the hotel at 9.30pm. Nonetheless, without any request or reminder, the cake was brought up again at 10pm with a candle lit and a "Happy Birthday" message written. Thanks to the waiter, Jack, for that! There is a swimming pool which may not suit serious swimmers as it is round and you cannot complete a 50 m lap. The breakfast buffet was also so-so, with an average amount of selection and surprisingly without laksa, given the heritage of the area and the hotel. On the day of check-out, I requested for a late check-out and was duly granted a 2h extension with no questions asked. All-in-all, it was a fantastic stay at this hotel!"

"This was my first stay at the Mercure and I would come again. It is ideally located about half way between the airport and the city. You have the best of both worlds then. The regular free shuttle was a feature not provided by many other hotels. In choosing any hotel, the taxi fare to/from the airport is not considered in the overall evaluation and can be quite a cost. I had a ticket issue that required a special revisit to the Changi airport so the shuttle saved that added taxi cost. The overall quality of the establishment easily fits 4 star."
