Anuradhapura District hotels & places to stay

It was our second stay at Heritage hotel in Anuradhapura and management did not disappoint us again, on the contrary. Staff is again friendly and service minded, especially for one of our disabled companions. The scenery from the hotel is magic: the beautiful view of Thissa Wewa with all the 2000 year old large Dagoba’s on the horizon. Breakfast and dinner are buffets and have a good selection for everyone from Western to Sri Lankan food. And is it not there and you ask it, than they will bring you it if it is in the kitchen: like my tasteful mango ice cream. Rooms are clean and wide with airco. The bathroom has a shower.

After the long road from Colombo, we arrived to be greeted with a welcome drink and notifying the other guests of our presence, in the form of ringing the ceremonial bell. We were immediately sold our chalet by the manager. He said we have chosen you one by the pool and near the restaurant, as though that were a benefit, and on three accounts mentioned the proximity to the pool. We were not sure why this was a good thing as we assumed as stated, we had our own private plunge pool, but upon reaching our chalet we realised why he was saying this as in fact we didn't. It felt a little untrustworthy but we immediately asked to be moved. They said they were fully booked but then found us a chalet with our own jacuzzi and apologised enough that it was obvious they were trying their luck. That aside when we reached our new accomodation we were in love. Incredibly spacious inside and well decorated. The floor to ceiling windows let an amazing amount of light in, framing the four poster bed in well. The bathroom was nice, but the power in the rain shower was weak.The plunge pool was fantastic and our view was sun facing, which made for a great position. We enjoyed relative quiet, although there was a chalet next door, which did'nt make for complete isolation. Another slightly major issue, were the nails were not properly in screwed in, with more than a few poking a good half inch out, which made walking around the jacuzzi and outside dangerous. My partner stepped on these a few times. It didn't ruin the trip but at the prices this really isn't acceptable. We asked to move to another chalet, but they said they were fully booked. As we had the experience at the start, we wern't completely reassured, but we did very much enjoy our chalet regardless. Food was generally unimpressive, which was a shame. We dined at the restaurant once but that was enough. Overall we enjoyed our stay, but at these prices things seriously need to be considered.

The hotel is beautiful. The food is fabulous. The staff is polite and helpful. The location is ideal for sightseeing in the archaeological site but is far from the city centre. Because of its location inside the archaeological site, cell phone connectivity is poor. The hotel wifi is not the best but it works. The food portions are large, especially the Sri Lankan food options. We decided to bicycle around the site and we had a great time but beware the heat of Anuradhapura, it can really wipe you out and come in the way of a good experience.

We recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to visit Anuradhapura & Mihintale. Very Nice family hotel with very good kitchen, wonderful swimming, with extra swim tools, WiFi better than anywhere else and the staff & the owner are so kind and helpful . Rooms: very good beds. Location is top: when you arrive, have some rest and visit next day in the morning Mihintale, back to the hotel for 2 hours break and visit in the afternoon Anuradhapura . We stay currently in a 4 stars hotel where WiFi is poor, bathrooms extremely dirty & bad smell .... so please do not hesitate, go to the SAJI-SAMI HÔTEL in MIHINTALE.

The hotel itself is not gorgeous type of hotel but it was clean,tidy and very quiet. Enough to sleep after coming back from sightseeing. The location is a bit far(1km away?) from sightseeing area. There is nothing around. I wanted to take a walk near by but I heard that there is no shop and no sights from the hotel staff. (I think any hotels in Anuradhapura have nothing much around, no many shops or restaurants at night) The restaurant looked so-so, so we didn't expect anything but actually the food was quite good. We were satisfied in the restaurant. We had grilled lake fish and some local food. All were delicious.

This hotel really awesome..front office guys they are realy helpfully.If you requested any hard thing cannot be find easier, they will help you to get this.when you are check out they will see tell you to some guides to avoid waste your time.that thing not happened to me but i saw it.. But few issues having their restaurant. Buffet also small..restaurant stewards also not much friendly.they are always looking for a tips.then soo bias full.. Cool place. Pretty garden and nice view also having in this hotel.. If you can rearrange your front..i mean building decos.its for a first impression for guests. All the facilities they said I enjoyed well.. Our stay at the Tree House was a wonderful experience. Our host, Chapa, and her staff did a fabulous event job of overseeing our stay. They organized our safari into the park, made sure everything in the room was perfect and the food. . . . . 😊😊😊. Some of the best food we have eaten anywhere! If we had any questions or requests, they were dealt with quickly and efficiently. This is an amazing place and I would recommend it to anyone.

We spent one day and one night in Anuradhapura and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sacred City Tourist resort. The room was clean and well kept, the homemade dinner was delicious and the location is perfect to see the temple city. The owner is a fantastic resource to help plan any excursions and provides a map of the temple area and walks you through the city area. He can also recommend a great tour guide. The rooftop offers a great view of 3 temples, especially at night and the owner drove us to the bus station and helped us organize our bus the next morning!

This B&B/Guesthouse will give you an authentic taste of life in Anuradhapura that is difficult to get elsewhere in town. Like all B&B's the bells and whistles are somewhat spartan. There is a supermarket near by to stock up when needed but water is the main 'must have' that is always on hand at the Guesthouse for purchase which is handy on the hot days. The location is in a quiet neighbourhood. The staff and/or residents are always around so your belongs will be secure in your locked room. The location is only 10 minutes or so from the Ancient City. It is about 1 hour from Walpattu National Park the other main attraction in the area. The food is excellent local Sri Lankan dishes. Servings are very generous and will get you through the day. The curry and rice and the Sri Lankan pancakes were some of the best meals I had in the country. This is important because it is very hard to eat local food in Anuradhapura as boring hotel buffets are the main tourist food venues in town so if you want to eat healthy local food this is a great option at very good prices. Last, the lush garden is filled with birds and playful squirrels to immerse yourself in during the morning over a coffee or at the end of a hot day with a beer on the balcony. The only negative is that the wi-fi can be a bit patchy but.... This is Sri Lanka! It is good value - I found Sri Lanka surprisingly expensive to travel through. Great quality budget accomodation was harder to find than I expected. You really could not go wrong here.

We came to that hotel in a very bad season, there were floods everywhere around Anuradhapura. Having paid for the cheep room we discovered that all were humid with a moist on the ceiling. No surprise. But! The owner is excellent, he placed us in another nice guest hose nearby for the first night, and than gave us for the second and third night a very correct room which worst more money we paid. Thanks! Can only recommend.

We had a very pleasant 3 nights stay in this hotel. It has a homely atmosphere and the hotel staff were more than willing to look after all our needs as much as they could from the moment we checked in to the hotel. The general cleanliness of the hotel and the rooms are not below to any 3-4 star hotel in Sri Lanka. It would be difficult to find a better hotel in Anuradhapura for this price.Thank you very much Sunil, the owner, his wife and their son Gihan and all the working staff for making our stay a very pleasant one!

We stayed for 3 nights at Lievis and if we return to Anuradhapura would choose this place again. The rooms are nice but was is even nicer is the small garden and patio in front of the rooms which form a small oasis in busy Anuradhapura town. The owner and the staff were very nice and helpful and the location is very central. There are also some bikes for rent in order to explore the town. What impressed us most was the honesty of the owner, who discovered some error in the bill after we had paid and came all the way to the bus station with his scooter to find us in the bus, stopped the driver and refunded us the money... We highly recommend this place.

Rajarata Reach Resort’s rooms are superiorly clean & tidy and very comfortable, give best value for the money. The hospitality was exceptional, very accommodative to personal requests and big credit goes to Mr.Chammika for his dedication to accommodate me late in the night, and provide late check-out time in the next day. Undoubtedly one of the best place to stay in Anuradhapura, and I thoroughly enjoyed the stay at Rajarata Reach Resort.

Owner of the hotel was really helpful.he gave us transportation from station to hotel free of charge.what ever we asked he supply .really a very convenient place in anuradhapura .we were in a budget room but it was really clean and tidy.clean bathroom.good hospitality.we got a late chek out for convenient price and when we chek out owner help us to find a bus to the air port since that time there were no bus to colombo from anuradhapura.untill we get the bus he didn,t leave us.i really appreciate his humanity and hospitdlity.i can recommand this place to any one who wish to come anuradhapura.best of luck for owner and staff of the hotel.we will come back again.

Definitely good value for money. Kind staff, Wimal (the owner) was welcoming and helpful. Helped us optimize our itinerary in Sri Lanka thanks to his long experience as a driver. Breakfast was included, we asked for local cuisine, it was delicious (home cooked by his wife). We also had diner twice, only good surprises (authentic and full of flavors). Location is conviniently close to Mihintale, which is a good alternative to fussy and noisy Anuradhapura center. Rooms are basic but clean. Aircon working well, same for shower / hot water

Hotel is ideally placed for visiting Wilpattu as it is within easy walking distance of the park entrance, a shop, and another hotel that has a bar/restaraunt. The staff were friendly and helpful, organised our safari at short notice food was good Sri Lankan cuisine. A short walk to the park gave one an opportunity to see animals. elephant, deer, peacocks that come to the lake of an evening.
