Worth the money despite a bumpy start”
I want to start out with the pros of this hotel. The hotel has recently been renovated, each area of the hotel is modern, inviting and clean. There was breakfast provided each morning with a selection of breads, meats, cheeses, eggs, fruit, yoghurt and a selection hotdishes as well. The hotel is located about 5 minutes walking distance from the main train station and 25 minutes walking distance to Salzburg Old City. There is a bus stop location Infront of the hotel as well. Now for some cons. We felt the hotel has somewhat of a strict check-in and check-out policy. Check-in is only available between 2pm and 6pm and check out is between 8am and 1030am. We arrived around 1pm to the Villa Floeckner in pouring rain and arrived to a locked door (a good feature for additional security, not so much when you are in the rain). We rang the door bell several times and no one had answered the door. We took a walk around the building and noticed an open window with a man in the basement and asked him to open the door. He proceeded to tell us that we are early and that check-in is not until 2pm. We only wanted to get out of the rain and store our bags for an hour. While I can not speak for the entire hotel, room 6, had one of the hardest beds with thinnest pillows I've ever slept on in my life. There is also no security safe located in the room. I would definitely recommend anyone visiting Salzburg to get the Salzburg City Card. The card is valid for either 24, 48 or 72 hours and gives you access to all public transportation within Salzburg, access of many museums and attractions including your lift ticket to the top of Unterberg. Overall, we felt the Villa Floeckner was worth the stay and money compared to other hotels in Salzburg especially when converting Euro into Canadian Dollars.
